lets get this party started...

A pinch and a punch folks...yes another month has rolled right on by. I'm not entirely sorry to see January go, despite its fair weather and extensive all round cruisiness. I'm ready to get into the year - what ever it may bring. I felt inspired by this article found via SF's excellent blog Block or Not . Go read it and feel ready to face the year. I especially like, "Comfort is the enemy of art" and "Perfect is the enemy of getting something done". The perfect moment to write will never arrive. Do it anyway. Good luck with all your endeavours this year, folks.

The photo is of my baby - now 12 - on Mt Eden, just up the road from our house

Do it anyway.

Good advice!

Lovely picture. I'm v envious of where you live (London does not look like that).

Great article, thanks for the link. Highly motivating!! Yikes, I better write today. And to think I was going to put it off until tomorrow :)

Hello! Thanks for the mention, and I'm glad you liked the article.

I like the bit where she says people say they'd like to write a book, but they don't. But they also say they'd like to go to the pub, and they manage to do that!
Generally, I try to do both.

oh I sooooo relate to that. I keep piling more books to write on top of the ones I even haven't finished writing yet. See if you finish them, you have to send them away to people for rejection...and we all hate that!

"Do the writing before the ironing, before getting dressed, having a shower or eating breakfast. Do the writing first. Because there's always something you can be doing instead of writing."

this is what I say. I don't weed, dust (tho I did do some on the weekend) play sport, knit, sew, bake... all those traditional things women are SUPPOSED to do. I write, teach, mother, and hang with friends.

I ignore the 'tyranny of the urgent' and do the important.

I have no more excuses - the children are finally back at school. Now I actually have to write something. I can already feel the fear building...
