You win some, you lose some. This little chick, still in egg, got all the way to the acquisitions meeting but fell off the table and broke. I have had a number of positive remarks regarding this particular manuscript but then for various reasons they still say no. Its fair to say I'm disappointed. The agent has smacked some sticky tape on the crack and its off to another publisher. The more I hang around in this business the more I appreciate how slow it all goes. I think this manuscript has legs so I will continue to have faith. I will try and bolster my patience with some patience bolstering vitamins...
In better news, as the result of my son's rubbish collecting habits and my eavesdropping on idle 11 year old boy chit-chat, I have a new story idea. I like it. It could be loads of fun and action. Question though - can I wait to finish my YA before I get started on this? And do I stick with the boy protagonist or should I make it a girl this time. My inclination was to have a boy but I'm not sure if its intuition or habit speaking.
And yesterday my SO and I talked holiday. I am desperate for one and our conversation has given me hope. I do love anticipation... especially when its about a holiday.

The waiting is agonising. I check my phone every morning at 3am to see if there is an email from my agent. The editors over there, it seems, are taking a painfully slow time to finish the manuscript though we've had some positive feedback.
And, negotiations for books 2 and 3 continue and I'm tired of my stomach remaining tight in anticipation.
As to your new story - I have many of them on the go at once (though, in saying this, Bloodlines has my full attention because of publishing expectations and I'm teaching full time yadda yadda yadda)
Like you, I see lots of visitors came and have a look around the blog (and it's exciting when it's from overseas) - I just wished they'd say hello.

The question is, does being on tenterhooks for a very long period of time have health consequences? There are days when all the waiting makes me feel ill but there is nothing to be done but wait some more.

I am one of those mystery people who read your blog. As a wannabe writer it's great to read about your trials and tribulations (not so great for you I know) but it keeps it real, lets the learner know it's not all awards and easily come by, that a lot of work and effort goes in. Well done.

Kath - welcome!!! I don't mind talking to myself, but its way more exciting to find its a conversation. I too have found it comforting to know that there are downs as well as ups in this business and I'm not the only one experiencing them.
